Tie a square knot

- Two different-color shoelaces; a small box.
Ages 6–8: Hold a lace and name which end crosses.
See the steps
- 1Lay the laces around the box. Cross right over left and tuck underneath.
- 2Cross the end now on the left over the end on the right; tuck underneath.
- 3Pull all four strands gently. Both loose ends should sit beside their own standing parts.
- Show Dad: Untie it and teach Dad the two crossings.
On FaceTime they need the laces at their end. Pick your time, how you’re connecting, and what they’re into; the suggestion changes to fit.
Say
“What was one good part of today? Was there a tricky part?”
Then
“Do you want me to listen, or help you think it through?”
Ask one. Let them lead.
